Disposal of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)

When does the legislation come into force?

Some parts of the legislation are already in place for Producers of EEE. The details of the legislation applying to businesses using EEE are still being finalised but the timescale has already been agreed:

For electrical and electronic equipment Producers
Producers (manufacturers, resellers and importers) are already responsible for marking products, packaging or instructions and warranty of products put on the market after August 13th 2005 with the crossed out Wheelie bin symbol. This is used to indicate that the product should not be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste.

For all businesses using electronic and electrical equipment:
There will be a period during which the regulations will be fully implemented and businesses will be expected to be ready to prove their compliance.
